The primary location of this position is in Asheville, NC.
This position is grant funded and continued employment is contingent upon funding availability.
This position is designated as Exempt from the Human Resources Act (EHRA).
This position is expected to provide a broad range of business advice and in-depth assistance to a sizable number of clients, both in regional offices and elsewhere throughout an assigned multi-county geographic area.
As a member of the SBTDC at WCU, this position serves a 14-county region in Western North Carolina.
The service center maintains 2 offices (WCU College of Business in Cullowhee, and Downtown Asheville).
The ability to travel on a daily basis across the region is expected.
The Business Counselor will be responsible for the delivery of business counseling, management training, research and technical assistance services to small and mid-sized business owners, entrepreneurs, and to individuals and firms developing new product technologies or markets.
Administrative duties include the management of confidential client records, entry of client information into a database, the preparation of quarterly activity reports, and the development of resources and relationships to support the mission of the SBTDC.
The candidate must have the ability to work effectively within both the academic and business communities.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications Management prefers candidates with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field and three or more years of experience as a business owner, senior manager or business consultant.
Public speaking/facilitation experience.
Knowledge of Spanish and other languages.
