Description of Work This Counselor-in-Charge position, located in the Asheville VR Office is an internal professional assistant supervisor to work in organizing and directing the delivery of vocational rehabilitation services in the office serving individuals with disabilities in Buncombe County.
This CIC will assist Unit Manager with work which involves planning, implementing, and evaluating the technical and administrative components of a diverse rehabilitation program’s day-to-day operations.
This CIC is responsible for supervising counselors serving the Buncombe County transition caseloads for our eight local high school caseloads consisting of individuals with physical/medical disabilities and Madison County Adult general caseload that assist individuals with physical and mental health disabilities.
Administrative management tasks include casework approvals to ensure quality service delivery for the assigned coverage area, budget development, performance management/improvement, staff development/training, and consultation/technical assistance to subordinate staff.
Work may include other related assignments as determined by Unit Manager.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.

Masters degree in rehabilitation counseling or counseling from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor; OR Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC), and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirement: Successful completion of the agency requirements for independent counselor status.
