Carved in Kathmandu by a master Newari craftsman and purchased by me in the 1970's.
One solid wood piece 1.
25" thick carved beautifully as a 'nimbus of flames' (as is around the head of deities).
I have since put a mirror inside the frame.
The measurement of the entire carved wood piece are 17.
5” x 15.
25”.
The measurements of the mirror I had put inside of it are 10.
5" x 10.
75”.
I have included a photo of the back where the artist carved a ’signature mark’ ~ Also, that tiny bit of red you see near it was a ‘wax stamp’ from the Nepalese government allowing me to take it out of Nepal (they want to make sure no one takes important artifacts out of the country).
It has deteriorated over the many decades and that is what is left of the wax stamp.
I have placed a metal piece in the back to allow for hanging it on a wall.
From an always smoke free and pet free home.
Looks a lot better in person where you can see how deep those carvings are.
The use of these halo/flames are centuries old.
I am including a photo of one around the head of a Japanese deity from the 7th Century.
